The 7 Questions With… interview series will give you an inside glimpse into the lives of various individuals Inder Comarinvolved in the legal profession, but in very different ways. Today we’re exited to welcome Inder Comar, a lawyer with a passion for social impact and the Legal Director of Comar Law.

Let’s get started!

1. What did you want to be when you were a kid?

I imagined myself being a musician, a doctor, or a lawyer.

2. What was your very first job?

When I was in high school I used to help my friends’ parents set up their email accounts and work their computers. It was more, “This is how you put a CD in the CD drive” than “this is how you build a website,” but it was fun and easy, and paid pretty well.

3. What did you think you’d do when you started law school? How is what you do now the same/different?

I thought I would be litigating important civil rights issues in court. I do that still, but I do it only about 20 % of the time. The rest of the time I am engaged in corporate counseling.

4. In one or two sentences, what is your career about today?

My career today is about advising and preparing companies for growth and success, including litigation defense. My career is also about using the law to promote positive social change.

5. What’s a typical day like for you?

I wake up and do about an hour of work at my home office. I am usually at the office by around 9:30. I take calls and do work from my computer till about 6 or 7. I may go to a networking event in the evening, or else go have a dinner with a friend or colleague, or just go home and relax.

6. What are you currently reading?

Crime and Punishment by Dostoevsky. Before that, the Tao Te Ching. I reference weekly the Blue Book, the Federalist Papers, and various blogs.

7. What’s one piece of advice you’d give your younger self or a person starting their career?

Life is so short, and it’s really important to enjoy what you do on a daily basis, whatever that is. Even if you enjoy your career, make time for friends and loved ones; they are the things that will continually brighten up your day. Remember that a lawyer, even corporate lawyers, have to concern themselves with justice in whatever way they can.

Thanks, Inder!
