As part of the health care reform debate unfolding in Washington, the Senate Finance Committee, in particular, has made cutting costs in Medicare a priority issue as a means of financing broader health care reform. Finance Committee Chairman, Max Baucus (D-MT), stated recently

"[t]o make the system more affordable and provide coverage to all, we need to look at where we spend money on healthcare today. The first place that we should look for savings is within healthcare itself."[1]
