South Sudan:

On January 9th, after briefing the United Nations (U.N.) Security Council on developments in South Sudan, U.N. Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Herve Ladsous announced the release of $15 million from the U.N. rapid response fund for immediate humanitarian operations in the country. However, Under-Secretary-General Ladsous also said it could take as long as eight weeks to fully enact a surge in peacekeeping operations in South Sudan as personnel and equipment is deployed to the region.
