CMS Releases Information on Providers Signed Up For New ACO Models – On January 11, 2016, HHS announced that several providers and hospitals have signed up to join new types of Medicare accountable care organizations (ACOs).  CMS has launched a new ACO model called the Next Generation ACO Model (NGACO Model), first unveiled in March 2015, and 21 providers have signed up.  CMS will partner with these ACOs that are experienced in coordinating care for populations of patients and whose provider groups are ready to assume higher levels of financial risk and reward, CMS said in a fact sheet on the program.

In addition, outlined in a separate CMS fact sheet, 39 new providers have enrolled in the ACO Investment Model (AIM).  This model, first announced in June 2015, has a total of 41 participants and provides pre-paid shared savings to encourage new ACOs to form in rural and underserved areas and current Shared Savings Program ACOs to transition to arrangements with higher financial risk. AIM is expected to provide a total of $83 million in ongoing investments to participants.
