What Caused the Alamo Insurance Data Breach?

The Alamo Insurance data breach was only recently announced, and more information is expected in the near future. However, Alamo Insurance’s filing with the Attorney General of Montana provides some important information on what led up to the breach. According to this source, on January 9, 2024, Alamo identified suspicious activity within an employee’s email account. In response, Alamo contacted its IT provider, who secured the email account. Alamo then began working with third-party data security experts to investigate the incident in hopes of determining what, if any, consumer information was compromised.

Alamo’s investigation confirmed that a single employee email account was compromised as a result of an email phishing attack. This particular email account contained confidential information pertaining to certain consumers.

After learning that sensitive consumer data was accessible to an unauthorized party, Alamo Insurance reviewed the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted. While the breached information varies depending on the individual, it may include your name, Social Security number and date of birth.

On March 12, 2024, Alamo Insurance sent out data breach letters to anyone who was affected by the recent data security incident. These letters should provide victims with a list of what information belonging to them was compromised.
