The recent Ashley Madison breach exposed millions of users who’d signed up to the site, believing they were doing so with full anonymity. Social media and news outlets helped fuel a storm that will not soon be forgotten. In its wake, many families will likely perish.
Infidelity, however, is not new and sadly, not uncommon. For many, there is no turning back. Everyday, relationships end, marriages are broken and families are dissolved. Infidelity can create contentious custody battles that are emotionally and financially devastating; where the children are caught in the crossfire and at the mercy of their parents’ actions.
We, as family law professionals, must do all we can to guide our clients by informing them of their legal rights and, if children are involved, helping them formulate fair and reasonable parenting plans. We encourage all of our clients to consider professional counseling and support groups for themselves and for their children.
Whether it be infidelity, finances or the countless other reasons relationships end, sound legal advice and emotional support are critical. It takes a strong person to seek help and doing so can be the most empowering step towards a new journey.
