On October 5th, Ford announced a safety recall for certain model year 2011-2013 Fiesta vehicles.

The recall is necessary because in the event of a side impact collision when the front passenger seat is empty, the passenger side curtain air bag will not deploy.  As a result, a person sitting in the right rear passenger seat will not have coverage from the side curtain air bag when the front passenger seat is empty.  This is a violation of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208.

Ford has stated that it will notify owners if their vehicles are impacted by the recall.  Free of charge, dealers will reprogram the  Fiesta’s software so that it no longer suppresses the passenger side curtain air bag when the front passenger seat is empty.

For more information, vehicle owners may call Ford at 1-866-436-7332, contact NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236, or visit www.safecar.gov.
