This past November, with little fanfare, bankruptcy court filing fees increased. The Judicial Conference of the United States Bankruptcy Court voted to increase several bankruptcy court filing fees. For consumers, the increase primarily affects us in terms of filing for bankruptcy. Here are the new filing fees, which went into effect in November, 2011:

Chapter 7 bankruptcy: increased from $299 to $306

Chapter 13 bankruptcy: increased from $274 to $281
Some other fees increased as well:

Amending schedules: increased from $26 to $30

Filing adversary proceeding: increased from $250 to $293

Filing motion for relief from stay: increased from $150 to $176
This is the first time bankruptcy filing fees have changed since 2006, when the House of Representatives passed the Budget Reconciliation Act.
