The city of Belmont, California is considering a ban on plastic bags, following in the footsteps of San Jose, Palo Alto and San Francisco. The proposed ban would be imposed on all single-use plastic bags, with a fee charged to retailers who provide single-use paper bags to customers and a provision that all paper bags be made of 40 percent recycled content.
