.. On 24 January 2017, the Supreme Court, the UK’s highest court, ruled that Parliament must be consulted before Article 50 is triggered. Article 50 is the provision of the Treaty of the European Union which a member state must invoke in order to formally give notice of its intention to leave the EU and begin the two-year withdrawal process.
