- 1. When we penned last year’s Update for you, dear reader, this fair country of ours stood six feet from the edge of the “ scal cliff” (i.e., the sun setting of the Bush-era tax cuts). Fortunately, thanks to the wise and generous-of-spirit ladies and gentlemen whom you and your fellow citizens sent to Washington to represent you, a fall off the scal cliff was averted.
