Jones Act and Maritime lawyers are few and far between in California despite the hundreds of miles of coastline. For most attorneys the rules governing injured seamen and dock workers are something that has never crossed their path. For clients injured in such accidents, there are not nearly as many resources to turn to for guidance as in other areas of law, even personal injury law which is similar yet in many respects different. This article examines some of the important points of what is referred to as Jones Act law and how the Jones Act can greatly benefit an injured seaman or worker on the high seas, on oil rigs and in places one might not expect.
