As chair of the California Water Commission, I spoke last week at the inaugural Delta Stewardship Council Interagency Implementation Committee on the actions the Commission has taken, in collaboration with ACWA and the Delta Stewardship Council, to gather information about existing and planned surface and groundwater storage projects. The goal of the Water Commission’s actions is to create an inventory of potential projects so that state and federal governments can make better funding and policy decisions on water storage. The Delta Stewardship Council Interagency Implementation Committee, organized to help coordinate the implementation of the Delta Plan, is composed of the heads of ten state and five federal agencies with regulatory authority related to the Delta. State Resources Secretary John Laird, DWR Director Mark Cowin, State Water Board Chair Felicia Marcus, Fish and Wildlife Director Chuck Bonham, and EPA Regional Administrator Jared Bloomenfeld, among others, were in attendance.
