California Water Leaders Testify at Capitol on Water Bond

BBK_Enviro05Earlier this week, California’s water leaders testified during an informational hearing at the Capitol before the Assembly Committee on Water, Parks, and Wildlife about the new $7.5 billion water bond.

According to the Association of California Water Agencies, the speakers agreed that the they are getting ready to disperse the funds and water projects throughout the State, and hope to build a statewide water system. Nearly every speaker referenced Gov. Jerry Brown’s California Water Action Plan, calling it the framework from which they are receiving guidance for fund disbursement.

Speakers included California Water Commission Chair (and BB&K attorney) Joe Byrne, Department of Water Resources Director Mark Cowin, Department of Fish and Wildlife Director Chuck Bonham, State Water Resources Control Board Chair Felicia Marcus, California Water Foundation Executive Director Lester Snow and ACWA Deputy Executive Director for Government Affairs Cindy Tuck.

In addition, representative from the Legislative Analyst’s Office detailed a report on the LAO’s goals for the funds.
