The recently enacted “Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act” provided $7.8 billion in federal funding to support the government’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak.  The total funding appropriated included approximately $950 million to be channeled through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to support state and local health agencies’ ongoing efforts.

Yesterday, the CDC announced the award of more than $560 million to state and local jurisdictions, as detailed in the third column of the PDF chart found here.  The CDC’s press release is available here.

In addition to yesterday’s funding announcement, the CDC released additional guidance to state and local health departments regarding recommended actions both to prepare for and to mitigate community transmission of COVID-19 in their communities. The document identifies local factors to consider in determining mitigation strategies, as well as recommendations based on the level of community transmission and specific settings.  A copy can be found here.
