After two years in the CFPB’s No. 2 spot, Steven Antonakes is reportedly resigning from the Bureau. American Banker has reported that it obtained an internal agency memo in which the Deputy Director announced to staff that he would be leaving the agency. The departure is all the more significant because of Antonakes’s role as one of the early officials who had been with Bureau since its inception in 2010. Antonakes, who also serves as Associate Director for Supervision, Enforcement, and Fair Lending at the Bureau, cited family reasons for his resignation. Another internal e-mail from Director Richard Cordray reportedly indicated that information about a successor to Antonakes would be released “in the coming weeks.”
