This week, Acting Chairman Ann Marie Buerkle withdrew her nomination to serve as Chairman of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). She will wrap up her tenure as Acting Chairman, a position she has held since February 2017, on September 30, and will finish her CPSC term on October 27. As we previously reported, Buerkle has guided the CPSC in a more corporate-friendly position, and her 2019 priorities included the Internet of Things, CPSC technology upgrades, and traditional product safety initiatives, such as furniture tipover safety. The White House has yet to indicate whether Republican Commissioner Dana Baiocco or Peter Feldman will be tapped to fill the Chairman role, or if the person selected to fill Buerkle’s CPSC seat will also get the nod for Chairman.
