CIS Overview of the New STEM OPT Extension Regulations for International Students.

Certain international students in the U.S. who have F-1 status can now obtain a 17 month extension of their Optional Practical Training if they work for an employer who has registered in the E-Verify Program. The rules also allows foreign students who received the H-1B to remain in the U.S. and to seek a change of nonimmigrant status. This document is important for Lawyers, International Foreign Student Advisers and employers interested in extending the stay of students who did not make the Fiscal Year 2008-2009 H-1B Cap.
