The long slumber is over. DTSC is now actively pursuing its next three priority products (PP), which are the following chemical-product combinations:
-
Nonylphenol ethoxylates and triclosan in cleaning, clothing and personal care products
-
Formaldyde, toluene and all possible candidate chemials in nail products
-
PFAS (perfluoralkyl, polyfluoroalkyl) in carpets, rugs, upholstered furniture (textiles) and care and treatment products
DTSC released three background papers on these three broad product categories this week, see cleaning, clothing and personal care products, nail products, carpets, rugs and upholstered furniture.
They are asking for impacted parties to voluntarily submit comments or answers to questions they’ve posed about the impacts and prevalence of the chemicals in the priority products in an on-line survey form by November 30, 2016. DTSC will accept any comments, documentation or information until February 28, 2017 for the first two PP categories, but only until December 30, 2016 for the PFASs. See http://www.dtsc.ca.gov/SCP/upload/Questions-for-PFAS-Stakeholders.pdf
DTSC is planning workshops on all three PP categories in January and February 2017. The PFASs in carpets, rugs and upholstery is the only one of the three scheduled, which will be January 31, 2017. This indicates that it is the most developed and ready for formal regulation.
