Campaign Finance & Lobbying Compliance
Democratic lawmakers on the Senate Finance Committee sent a letter to the Internal Revenue Service asking for an explanation about its enforcement of the tax laws related to so-called “dark money” organizations. (Brian Schwartz, CNBC)
California: Los Angeles County prosecutors charged a former mayor of Maywood, CA and 10 others with bribery and corruption, which included pay-to-play practices involving campaign contributions. (James Queally & Ruben Vives, Los Angeles Times)
Georgia: Legislation introduced in Georgia on Monday would give state investigators more tools to bring forth ethics cases and makes clear that some uses of leftover campaign money are illegal. (James Salzer, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
Illinois: Former state senator Sam McCann, who ran for governor in 2018 as the nominee for the Conservative Party, was indicted for the misuse of campaign funds and other charges. (Ben Szlalinski, State Journal-Register)
Oregon: The Oregon Ethics Commission has released its most recent edition of Guide to Lobbying in Oregon in time for the 2021 legislative session. (OGEC)

Massachusetts: Boston City Council voted to bypass an otherwise required special election if Mayor Marty Walsh resigns before March 5, 2021. (NBC 10 Boston)
