Consultation on digital terrestrial radio broadcasting (Italy)

The Italian Communication Authority (AGCOM) has recently launched a public consultation on the digital terrestrial radio broadcasting regulation.

Interested operators can submit their observations and proposed amendments by the 26th of July.

The changes include a selection procedure for the consortium interested in entering into the digital terrestrial radio broadcasting. In particular, the radio broadcasters will be requested to participate in a beauty contest, providing information on (i) the infrastructure to be used for the broadcast and relevant technological innovations, (ii) the economic capabilities, (iii) the type of programs and services to be broadcast (information programs are to be preferred), and (iv) the experience of the individuals participating to the consortium.

The final ranking will be published following the assessment by the Economic Development Ministry. Will this procedure affect the number and type of operators of the digital terrestrial radio broadcast?
