Each year, the Cook County Assessor reassesses one-third of the nearly 1.8 million parcels in Cook County. For 2013, the 13 townships located in the north and northwest sections of Cook County will be reassessed starting in January/February 2013. These townships are Barrington, Elk Grove, Evanston, Hanover, Leyden, Maine, New Trier, Niles, Northfield, Norwood Park, Palatine, Schaumburg, and Wheeling.

The reassessment comes at a time of great uncertainty. Congress and the President managed to avoid the “fiscal cliff,” but are still sorting through the effects of the tax changes. The European Union is struggling through a continued sovereign debt crisis as its member countries try to rein in their spending.
