Welcome to the September edition of the Alston & Bird CPSC Recall Snapshot.

This month, the CPSC announced the recall of Samsung Galaxy Note7 smartphones. This recall is far from ordinary, however, because Samsung announced the recall on its own weeks before the CPSC’s announcement of the recall, and the CPSC issued a press statement instructing consumers to stop charging or using the devices a week before it announced the recall on its website. This is certainly not the norm, as very few companies publicly announce recalls before the recall is announced by the CPSC.
