Massachusetts has joined the minority of states extending mechanic's lien rights to architects, engineers and other project professionals. Signed into law by Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick on January 5, 2011, and effective on July 1, 2011, the new law allows design professionals, project managers and program managers to pursue a mechanic's lien in the event of nonpayment for their services.
