The United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) announced in a December 10th new release the availability of grant funding to implement:

. . . projects aimed at reducing emissions from the nation’s existing fleet of older diesel engines.

EPA states it anticipates awarding approximately $44 million in Diesel Emission Reduction Program (“DERA”) grant funding to eligible applicants.

Besides Arkansas, Region 6 states include Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas.

EPA states it will accept proposals requesting up to $2.5 million in grant funds. The agency is soliciting applications for projects that “significantly reduce diesel emissions and exposure, especially from fleets operating at goods movements facilities in areas designated as having poor air quality.” Funding is potentially provided for applicants to upgrade or replace diesel-powered buses, trucks, marine engines, locomotives, and nonroad equipment with newer, cleaner technologies.

EPA states that priority for funding will also be given to projects that “engage and benefit local communities and applicants that demonstrate their ability to promote and continue efforts to reduce emissions after the project has ended.”
