On March 30, 2016, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a press release announcing the launch of ten regional Elder Justice Task Forces. The release describes these Task Forces as part of DOJ’s efforts to combat nursing homes and long-term care facilities that provide substandard care to Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries.
According to DOJ, the Task Forces will bring together representatives of the US Attorneys’ Offices, state Medicaid Fraud Control Units, state and local prosecutors’ offices, HHS, state adult protective services agencies, long-term care ombudsman programs, and other law enforcement agencies. DOJ plans to contribute litigation support and training to the Task Forces through DOJ’s Elder Justice Initiative.
DOJ is launching the Elder Justice Task Forces in the following 10 districts:
