In 2003, when Ajamu Gines, Jr. was six years old, he was living with his mother and her boyfriend, Johnny Kegler. The living arrangement wasn't too good for Ajamu. He was taken to the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center (Center) for a broken wrist. There were, apparently, discrepancies in the mother's story about how it happened. Doctors also discovered that Ajamu had an old rib fracture...
• Fired workers win over $280K in damages from employer. Phyllis Carolina, Karen Rogers and Ronda Alexander claimed they were seriously injured while working for a Lear Corp. at a plant in Virginia. According to them, they were fired because they filed claims for workers' compensation. They filed a lawsuit and a jury agreed: Carolina was awarded $124,666, Alexander got $82,814 and Rogers got $80,000...
• $800K for car driver injured in wreck with semi. In 2008, Sandra Frankel was trying to make a turn at an intersection when her mini-van was struck by a semi tractor-trailer carrying 110 head of cattle. According to the truck driver, he couldn't stop at the red light at the intersection because of the truck's heavy load. After hitting the mini-van, the truck overturned. The driver was cited for disregarding a traffic light....
