EEOC Commissioner Chai Feldblum on Proactive EEO Compliance


On March 16, 2012, EEOC Commissioner Chai Feldblum joined The Proactive Employer Podcast to share information about the Agency's outreach and education programs aimed at assisting the employer community with EEO compliance.

Preventing employment discrimination through education and outreach has always been one of the EEOC’s main objectives. The new Strategic Plan differs from previous plans in that education and outreach is specifically mentioned as an area of focus.

There are several new programs aimed specifically at areas of the employer community that are historically under-served, such as small businesses and new businesses. Many don't have in-house human resources departments, and they're struggling with limited financial resources. Being able to utilize the EEOC as a partner in their compliance efforts will be a tremendous benefit.

The episode also featured discussion on how the EEOC plans to incorporate more elements of social media in its outreach and education programs, the importance of preventing employment discrimination, and why proactive EEO compliance should be a priority for every employer.
