The United States Environmental Protection Agency (“EPA”) Office of Inspector General (“OIG”) submitted an October 30th Notification of Audit (“Notification”) titled:

Effectiveness of Clean Water Act to Protect from Plastic Pollution

See Project No. OA&E-FY19-0086.

The Notification is transmitted from OIG’s Water Directorate of the Office of Audit and Evaluation to EPA’s Assistant Administrator – Office of Water and Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator for Science – Office of Research and Development.

The Notification states that OIG plans to conduct fieldwork:

. . . to evaluate the EPA’s programs in the Office of Water and Office of Research and Development that address plastic pollution.

The objective is stated to include identification of the extent to which EPA’s existing Clean Water Act programs and Office of Research and Development initiatives address threats and risks to public health and the environment from plastic pollution within the waters of the United States.
