Please join the Ohio Five, in conjunction with Kenyon College and Bricker & Eckler, for a Clery and Title IX training. Participants will have the opportunity to obtain their annual Clery Act training requirements, and participate in interactive sessions that will target advanced topics with the goal of debriefing and demystifying the current TItle IX regulations.

This training will be highly interactive and participatory for both in-person and virtual participants.

New for 2022 - There are two training tracks available for participants to attend. The "Title IX Administrative" track is for Title IX Coordinators and those interested in developing trends in Title IX, including the recent publication of the proposed regulations. The second track is the two-day training for Title IX Investigators, Advisors and Decision-Makers.

All participants should plan to attend the annual Clery Training session on the first morning.


Track 1 - Title IX Administrative

Annual Clery Training

This session will cover the required annual training requirements under the Clery Act. The training will cover issues regarding sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking as defined under the Clery Act and under the Title IX regulations. Additionally, the training will cover how to conduct an investigation and hearing process that protects the safety of victims and promotes accountability as required under the Clery Act regulations.

Advanced Session 1: The Challenges and Successes of Informal Resolution

This session will cover the best practices and the challenges that the new regulations create with regard to informal resolution. This session will talk about how to operationalize and inform resolution on campus, suggested best practices with regard to informal resolution agreements, properly communicating procedural protections to participants and informal resolution, and some of the challenging issues that colleges and universities have encountered when engaging in informal resolution under the new regulations.

Advanced Session 2: Review of the Department of Education's Notice of Proposed Rule Making regarding Title IX and its Implications for Campuses

The Department of Education will issue its Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) regarding the Title IX regulations. This session will review these proposed changes and related issues and will create an environment for an open discussion on how to best address some of these challenges on your college campus during the next academic year.

Advanced Session 3: Title IX Q&A

3:30 p.m.–4:00 p.m. (EST)

This session will cover the topics or concerns about the intricacies of the new Title IX process. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue and share success stories when working through difficult situations to avoid litigation. In this session information will be provided to assist Title IX Coordinators with potential situations when they may be obligated to dismiss a complaint or may have flexibility to review options within their process.

The remainder of Day 1, and all of Day 2, will cover: understanding and applying investigative techniques and procedures; exploring cross-examination theory and practice; applying the Title IX regulations’ use of relevancy; reviewing the hearing process including making relevancy decisions and the roles of the investigators, decision-makers, and advisors in the investigative and hearing process; discussing the written decision and how to objectively evaluate evidence; and being impartial and avoiding bias/conflict of interest. These sessions will be interactive and skills-focused.
