FERC Announces Workshop on Potential 2-Year Hydropower Licensing Process


FERC announced that it will hold a workshop on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, regarding ?implementation of the Hydropower Regulatory Efficiency Act of 2013 (the "Act"). Specifically, ?the workshop will investigate "the feasibility of a two-year process for the issuance of a license ?for hydropower development at non-powered dams and closed-loop pumped storage projects in ?compliance with [the Act]."

The workshop discussion will focus on four areas: 1) whether a two-year licensing process is ?feasible; 2) the details of a two-year licensing process; 3) the criteria used to identify ?projects appropriate for this process; and 4) potential pilot projects.

The workshop will be held from 10 am to 2 pm MDT/9 am to 1 pm PDT, at FERC on September ??3, 2013. The workshop will be webcast and a limited number of lines are available for attendees ?by teleconference. In-person attendance or webcast attendees may register here by ?September 25, 2013. The workshop agenda is forthcoming.  FERC will also accept ?written comments, which are due by November 1, 2013?.
