The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”) hosted a forum on gas-electricity coordination issues in New England on June 20, 2023.  Now, FERC is seeking post-forum comments addressing items from the forum agenda as well as other topics raised at the forum.

Topics invited for comment include:

  • Whether the Everett Marine Terminal (“Everett”), a liquefied natural gas (“LNG”) facility, should remain in operation, and if so, how;
  • Reactions to the recently published preliminary study results suggesting a low risk of electricity shortfalls through winter 2027 if Everett is retired;
  • Reactions to yet-to-be-published study results on winter reliability for an additional five years through 2032, which FERC expects to be published in advance of the August 15, 2023, NEPOOL Reliability Committee Meeting.
  • What infrastructure is needed to support reliable electricity and natural gas operations in New England;
  • What market reforms are needed to support reliable electricity and natural gas operations in New England; and
  • Recommendations for next steps coming out of the forum.

Comments are due August 28, 2023.
