The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) announced today that Hurricane Harvey victims in the affected areas of Texas have until January 31, 2018 to file their 2016 FBARs (that would have otherwise been due on October 15, 2017).
Currently, 18 counties in Texas are eligible for such relief: Aransas, Bee, Brazoria, Calhoun, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Goliad, Harris, Jackson, Kleberg, Liberty, Matagorda, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Victoria, and Wharton. Should FBAR filers in other localities affected by Hurricane Harvey be deemed eligible for individual assistance at a later date, they will automatically receive the same filing relief.
In addition, FinCEN will work with any FBAR filer who lives outside the disaster area but whose records required to meet the deadline are located in the affected area regardless of where the filer resides.
