As we reported to you in an FR Alert on September 1, 2011, the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) was recently amended. The amendments address new guidelines for requests from “recurrent requesters” and commercial requests. The amendments also remove the requirement that public bodies seek Attorney General pre-authorization before relying on certain exemptions. We indicated that all public bodies should revise their FOIA policies and procedures to address these important new changes.
We have revised the Sample FOIA Administrative Procedures and the FOIA Frequently Asked Questions documents in the Franczek Radelet FOIA Document Package to address the changes in the FOIA law. The Document Package was previously updated at no cost to purchasers in January and July, 2010.
