  • The FTC will hold a virtual informal hearing on April 24, 2024, on its proposed Trade Regulation Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees that purports to curb hidden fees, which the agency characterizes as “junk fees.”
  • The proposed rule would prohibit the omission of mandatory fees from advertised prices and the misrepresentation of the nature and purpose of fees charged.
  • Commenters will be allowed to give oral statements during the hearing, and organizations can submit written documents within 14 days of the notice’s publication in the Federal Register.
  • We have previously reported on the bipartisan support extended by 19 AGs and the Hawaii Office of Consumer Protection in February 2024 for the proposed rule.
