Renergen publishes prospectus for proposed ASX listing

AltX-listed alternative and renewable energy business Renergen has, ahead of its planned listing on the ASX in May, announced a further increase in reserves at its subsidiary Tetra4’s Virginia project, in South Africa’s Free State province.

The company, which on Wednesday published its prospectus for a secondary listing on the ASX, also reported that an independent reserve review by U.S.-based firm MHA Petroleum Consultants has confirmed a 12.2% increase in proven methane reserves to 40.76 billion cubic feet, while proven helium reserves have increased by 16.1% to 1.01 billion cubic feet.

Tanzania to ramp up energy generation efforts by 2025

Tanzania's Deputy Energy Minister Subira Mgalu told Parliament on Tuesday that the country aims to have six times its current power generation capacity by 2025 through investment in thermal and renewable energy.

Reuters reported that the country boasts reserves of over 57 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, but faces periodic power shortages.

Mgalu said: "Implementation of various power generation projects will increase the capacity of our national power grid from 1602 MW presently to 10 000 MW by 2025."

Bank report points to transport being next decarbonisation frontier

Newly released research by international banking group HSBC outlines a scenario for reducing transport emissions by 76% by 2040 through combining technology and regulation in a way that results in electricity, hydrogen and biofuels replacing oil as the primary fuel feedstock across transport modes.

The report labels transport as the "second frontier" for decarbonisation in light of progress being made in reducing emissions from electricity production and given that reducing emissions in the power sector alone will be insufficient to limit global warming in 2100 to below 2⁰C above preindustrial levels.

Firm plans to deploy 400 natural gas refuelling sites across SA

Natural gas distributor Delta Natural Gas (DNG) Energy is rolling out 400 natural gas refuelling sites across South Africa for the taxi and freight industries, which will provide an immediate cost reduction of 25% for these industries and reduce their carbon emissions, says DNG Energy CEO Aldworth Mbalati.

Natural gas is less environmentally damaging than petroleum-based fossil fuels and is a so-called transition fuel that releases less carbon dioxide and other harmful pollutants, such as sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides commonly released during coal- and diesel-fired processes.
