Since people who drive these vehicles may not be made aware of the problem that exists even if GM makes the best efforts possible to notify them, we’re trying to help by bringing some attention to this issue. Below you will find a brief overview of this GM recall in terms of the models it affects and what can happen if the owners of these models do not take immediate steps to get the problem repaired. Anyone who has been harmed by a product that malfunctioned suddenly needs to obtain the help of California defective products lawyers as soon as possible.

The GM Truck Recall – The Details

General Motors today announced that it was recalling approximately 145,000 models of pickup trucks. The reason for this recall is that the hoods on these vehicles lack a secondary hood latch. As a result, if the main latch is not fashioned properly, it’s possible that the hood could fly into an upward position suddenly and completely block the vision of the driver. Clearly, this presents an extremely dangerous situation for anyone who drives any of these vehicles.

The models that are affected by this GM pickup truck recall include Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsized pickup trucks that were manufactured between 2010 and 2012. Nearly all of the models in question were sold somewhere in North America. That includes 118,000 trucks sold in the United States, more than 15,000 sold in Canada and nearly 7,500 units that were sold in Mexico. Owners are encouraged to take their vehicles to the nearest dealership to have them inspected for a secondary latch. Those models that are missing this latch will have one installed free of charge.

Defective Products and Legal Fallout

As of this point, GM has stated that it is not aware of any accidents or injuries that have occurred because of this defect. However, anyone who has been harmed because of a defective product understands that taking action against a manufacturer can be an extremely difficult process considering the resources of many of these corporations.

If you or someone you love has been harmed as a result of using a product that was defective, you do have legal rights and options that could include recovering compensation for the losses you have incurred.
