This is a short German language article which has been published in the German daily "Börsenzeitung" on 5 January 2011 on the new German act on the restructuring of failing financial institutions. It constitutes a major milestone in German legislation and draws upon the lessons learned during the recent crisis of the financial markets. It allows the reorganization of failing financial institutions either trough a voluntary reorganization procedure or by a forced spin-off to a newly created "bridge bank" or another existing bank of all or parts of the assets and liabilities of a failing financial institutions with systemic importance.
