Governor Ron DeSantis issued Executive Order 20-276 on November 3, 2020, which extends the state of emergency in Florida for another 60 days through January 2, 2021. DeSantis initially issued Executive Order 20-52 on March 9, 2020 for the entire state of Florida due to the coronavirus. The state of emergency was extended by subsequent Executive Orders 20-114, 20-166, 20-192, and 20-213.

This extension is critical to condominium and homeowner’s associations which have enacted policies to discourage the spread of novel coronavirus through the use of their statutory emergency powers. Those powers are primarily predicated on the state of emergency being in effect.
