California plans green building loans

California is working with banks to develop below-market-interest loans for owners of commercial and industrial property to finance upgrades that curb energy use. A pool of funds would be made available under criteria set by the California Alternative Energy and Advanced Transportation Financing Authority.

AltBuild Expo coming to Santa Monica

DOE's $1.3M in green training for building professionals

The DOE’s and the Department of Commerce's Manufacturing Extension Partnership Program will provide $1.3 million for training programs to give commercial building professionals the skills to optimize building efficiency, reduce waste and save money.

USGBC's third public comment period for LEED

USGBC - Feb 12

The third public comment period for the LEED 2012 update will open on Mar. 1 and close on Mar. 20, 2012. Then LEED 2012 will be voted on in June and launch in November, 2012.

Hines earns EPA's Sustained Excellence Award

The EPA recognized Hines with the 2012 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award for leadership in energy efficiency. This is the fifth time Hines has received the Sustained Excellence Award. Hines' 71 million sq.ft. portfolio of ENERGY STAR buildings is 35.9 percent more energy efficient than the national average, with an average performance rating of 82.

2012 Green California Summit set for April

USGBC Northern California Chapter - Feb 26 The 2012 Green California Summit and Exposition, the state's largest annual conference addressing California's environmental policies and the technologies that support them, will take place April 26 and 27 at the Sacramento Convention Center.

MiraCosta College offers free training in green building

San Diego Union-Tribune - Feb 16

A free eight-week course on green building starts April 3 at MiraCosta College in California with orientation on Feb. 21, Feb. 28 or March 7. The 120-hour program gives an overview of green construction including construction, environmental training and energy fundamentals.

UC Irvine Extension launches LEED webinar series
