Battelle markets a technology that, per its website, “destroys PFAS without creating harmful byproducts.” Lest there be any question what this product does, Battelle named it the PFAS ANNIHILATOR™.

On December 7, 2021, two subcommittees of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Science, Space, and Technology held a joint hearing on this technology. Known as “supercritical water oxidation,” it uses extremely hot water to break PFAS into smaller molecules leaving inert salts and PFAS-free water behind. The subcommittees heard testimony from individuals at Battelle that the PFAS ANNIHILATOR™ can be housed in either fixed or mobile units that can be deployed to address on-site destruction needs.
