According to police, the woman sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Huntsville Hospital. That is all that was disclosed of her condition. According to reports, the driver of the vehicle sustained no visible injuries.
Investigators are currently working to reconstruct the accident and what could have caused the driver to lose control of her vehicle. If it is found that the driver was negligent in some manner -- either because she was driving while distracted, using excessive speed, impaired or negligent for any other manner -- she could be held liable.
Hopefully, the victim will make a full recovery. However, based on initial reports, it appears as though the Alabama woman has a long road ahead of her. Her injuries could require extensive surgeries and long months of rehabilitation. Prolonged hospital stays can put a significant dent in the wallet of injured victims. If this victim chooses to do so and the driver is found to have been negligent, the victim could pursue a personal injury claim to recoup her financial losses due to medical expenses. She could also be compensated for her pain and suffering.
