Walter Kidde Portable Equipment Inc., based in Mebane, N.C., has issued a recall for industrial fire extinguishers after reports of injuries reached the company. The recall covers 10lb industrial fire extinguishers manufactured at any time between 1991 and 2000; about 470,000 of the devices are being recalled in total. According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, three people have been injured to date. According to the report, the nylon valve occasionally separates from the steel cylinder.  This defect  can lead to serious injury, as well as potential device failure during a fire.

Nationally, thousands of products are recalled for all kinds of reasons every year. The Consumer Products Safety Commission generally deals with consumer and industrial product recalls, including everything from strollers to industrial juice dispensers.  Food products and medical devices are dealt with by the Food and Drug Administration.

In most cases, these recalls are merely precautionary.  However, reports of death or injury from defective products are still mentioned in the news on an alarming basis.

If you or a loved one has been injured due to a defective product, you may be able to recover monetary damages from the manufacturer of the product. It is important that you work with a qualified product defect lawyer who understands how to prosecute these cases to be compensated effectively. Most product liability attorneys will work on contingency and offer free consultations. With no up-front cost for you, it is well worth your while to contact one today.
