Is Immigration Reform Over Now That the Government is Shut Down? NO!

While the government shut-down is a big distraction from other issues, the push for immigration reform continues. A new bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives, H.R. 15, "The Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act”. So far, all sponsors are Democrats, but neither of Iowa’s Democratic representatives have signed on as of this writing (Rep. Braley - 202 225-2911 and Rep. Loebsack - 202 225-6576).

The politics of government funding and health care reform are complex and beyond the scope of this blog. But the point of using the phone numbers provided above to request support for this measure is to show that despite everything else, immigration reform is critical to the U.S. economy and our future. The situation – either specific or general – is not perfect, but we have to start somewhere.
