The October 16th edition of the Arkansas Water Resources Center publication Arkansas Water Currents (“AWC”) notes that the Lake Conway Point Remove Watershed (“LCPRW”) Alliance (“Alliance”) received a $75,000 grant from the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission’s 319 Nonpoint Source Pollution program.

The AWC article states that the focus of the grant is to “take an expanded look at the water quality in their watershed.”

The LCPRW is described as a “new” watershed group.

The goal of the LCPRW funded project is stated to be the development of a “9-Element Watershed Management Plan” (“WMP”). The AWC article quotes an LCPRW board member, Sally Entrekin, as stating that the project will:

. . . help us get the data we need to complete the WMP. We're excited to have the opportunity to make some big watershed improvements that will enhance water quality in central Arkansas. Plus, the grant will support student research assistants, which is always grant for students and our community.

Ms. Entrekin is described as a member and faculty researcher at the University of Central Arkansas.

The 9-Element Watershed Management Plan is described as a tool that can help protect water resources and meet water quality standards. The ability to do so is through the identification of areas where best management practices have the greatest positive impacts on water quality.

The Lake Conway Point Remove Watershed is stated to be a priority watershed in Arkansas. The article notes that it has many streams on the Clean Water Act Section 303(d) list of impaired waterbodies and encompasses about 1,140 square miles.

A focus of the Alliance’s project is stated to be the smaller streams that enter the Arkansas River.
