Landlords and lenders may be surprised to learn that if their tenants or borrowers engage in certain illegal activities, the rights of the landlord and lender could be severely impacted. Lindsay Goldberg of the Vancouver office reviews how the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) allows the federal government to request that a court order the seizure and restraint of any offense-related property, pending the outcome of the offender's criminal trial and, on conviction, complete the forfeiture of the property to the government.
