The time has long passed for lawyers to stop gnashing their teeth and donning sack cloth and ashes because the clients aren’t queued up at the door pleading for lawyers to handle their work and pleading with these lawyers to please take as much of their money as possible. Maintaining a successful practice requires regular and active marketing by every lawyer. No lawyer can simply be an order taker. Lawyers must be proactive. Lawyers must be salesmen. Lawyers must have marketing plans. Your phone is not going to ring simply because you have a web site or a Martindale (or lawyers.com or avva.com or even if you are listed as a “super lawyer”).
If you want to stay busy practicing law productively, you first need to make marketing of your legal services an integral part of every day.
If you don’t call the clients, they won’t be calling you.
