MDOT Files New Bridge Condemnations

Notwithstanding Maroun Court of Claims lawsuit attacking propriety of the Gordie Howe Bridge Project, the MDOT has filed dozens of new condemnations including against Maroun entities.

On Friday, I posted a blog discussing a lawsuit filed by a series of entities controlled by Manny Maroun seeking to prevent the MDOT from filing new condemnation actions to acquire property for the Gordie Howe Bridge.  Apparently, this lawsuit did not scare the MDOT.  On Friday, MDOT filed at least two dozen eminent domain lawsuits, including against the entities that are plaintiffs in the Maroun lawsuit.

I could probably fill this blog with articles discussing the back and forth drama surrounding this project.  I cannot recall another situation in which a business entity had a stronger motivation to both prevent and delay a public project.  I do not know what the revenue drop will be at the Ambassador Bridge when the Gordie Howe Bridge opens, but it is likely substantial.
