The Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (“ADEQ”) Office of Air Quality announced the availability of updated meteorological data.

The agency states that beginning January 1, 2018, a new 5-year set of data for minor new source review and non-criteria pollutant dispersion modeling will be used.

Meteorological data can be a key variable in air emission modeling and monitoring. Concentration of pollutants in the ambient air can be influenced at any given point by meteorological conditions (along with topographical conditions such as hills or valleys). Air quality dispersion models use meteorological information along with emission data to estimate probable concentration of a given pollutant at a certain geographical point.

ADEQ states that its data range is updated every five years. The update is announced three months in advance of the effective date to use the data.

The agency states that any applications received after the effective date should incorporate the new data set. Pending applications will use the data in effect at the time of application receipt unless otherwise approved by ADEQ.
