As previously reported on this Blog here, an investigation by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel revealed a history of under-reporting crimes within the Milwaukee Police Department (“MPD”). Now, MPD Chief Ed Flynn announced a new Standard Operating Procedure, which sets forth how reports should be processed and reviewed for accuracy. Chief Flynn blamed prior mistakes in crime reporting on human error and a faulty computer system, which the MPD is seeking to replace. Chief Flynn also announced a new Standard Operating Procedure designed to reduce racial profiling, which states that MPD officers shall be fair and impartial when enforcing the law.
